Welcome by the Congress President
It is a great honour and privilege for Vienna to be elected to host the 39th congress of the European Hernia Society (EHS) in 2017.
Vienna is not only the historical domain of Theodor Billroth, one of the most important founders of modern abdominal surgery, but is a cultural hub offering art, music, architecture and history for all.
The meeting entitled "Prevention and Prophylaxis beyond Hernia Surgery" covers topics of ever increasing interest in modern times including cost awareness and patient outcome.
We look forward to welcoming you to a scientific spring time in Vienna.
Vienna is waiting for you!
René H. Fortelny
Welcome by the EHS Secretary General
On behalf of the European Hernia Society, I would like to thank Prof. René Fortelny and his team for hosting the upcoming congress of the EHS in the wonderful city of Vienna.
The professional and scientific background of this group of Austrian surgeons guarantees a congress with a high scientific level in a generous and friendly atmosphere, which we will all enjoy.
The EHS grows steadily and the society is in the middle of a revolution to bring together all European surgeons and researchers of the Abdominal Wall. The development of a concrete educational plan and the promotion of scientific research are among our goals. We are definitely in a phase of change where we are working hard to turn into an active society, which can offer something more than an annual congress.
However, without any doubt, the EHS congresses are part of the history and the future of the society. They mean a meeting point for surgeons from Europe and all over the world to show the present and the development of the Abdominal Wall surgery. In Vienna, we will enjoy the friendly bonds that have been created by Hernia surgery, and we will strengthen these bonds, which unite the different corners of Europe, away from the politic and other factors, where the cultural differences only unite us more and let us learn from each other.
We look forward to welcoming you in Vienna, to help the EHS to grow as a society and we really hope that the lessons we gather help us to increase the quality of our surgery.
EHS Secretary General
